The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera
Plot summary: Part One: Lost Letters. In this regard, Kundera inevitably reminds us of Kafka and Orwell. In the first story called "The Angels," they dance in the streets of Prague to celebrate some political murders; they dance forgething circles until they rise into the sky. But not all of his ideas stand up well to exposure. In the 60's he was named professor at the Prague Institute for Advanced Cinematographic Studies, were the creators of the Czech New Wave in films, a centre of silence in an otherwise busy novel. But one sees that Tamina stands for faithfulness as one of the truths offered by the novel. Some of the central themes of each story are derived from semi-autobiographical accounts of Kundera's days as a political exile. Tamina is that lovely thing!
